Combined Culture is a collective of creatives who are committed to improving their respective communities through film and art. During 2016, CC focused on the issue of sexual assault and violence.
Objective: Highlight the prevention of sexual assault by emphasizing ways we can improve safety on college campuses and encourage conversations around consent.
Problem: The epidemic of sexual assault affects nearly every person directly or indirectly while in higher education with 23.1% of females and 5.4% of males experience rape or sexual assault.
Insight: Because of a lack of communication, people sometimes engage in sexual situations that enter a grey area – where someone does not intend to hurt another person, but because they don’t check in with their partner, could be unknowingly crossing boundaries.
Solution: Present a new narrative that even when the perfect storm for negative incidents brew – clothing, intoxication, flirting, prior encounters – talking about consent is key to sexual encounters and communication is not a buzzkill.
